Here's a list of events in and around Long Beach jam-packed with family-friendly outings, things to be inspired by and great places to get together with friends.

Some kids are back in school, but the heat keeps it feeling like summer so what's the harm is a little denial that summer break is almost over?

This week, Long Beach is packed with events that will keep you busy no matter what season it is.

Here are some events to check out this week: 

Long Beach Plane Pull (Aug. 24)

The Olympic Games may be over, but Special Olympics Southern California will host a plane pull this Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Long Beach Airport as a fundraiser to benefit its athletes. SOSC athletes, families, first responders and the community are invited to participate in teams of 25 and volunteers are needed for jobs like face-painting, flight deck crew and more. Neighborhood Bike Ride (Aug. 25)

Bixby Knolls will host its monthly neighborhood bike ride on Sunday. Kids and adults of all ages are welcoming to join and ride through the neighborhood together starting at 11 a.m. behind Pixie Toys. The route will be shared Sunday morning on Instagram. Helmets are encourages and treats will be provided during the ride.

Happy Sundays Fest (Aug. 24 and 25)

Happy Sundays Fest is a free music festival highlighting local and emerging artists taking place this weekend in the Zaferia District. More events happening:

Tuesday (Aug. 20)

  • 2ND & PCH will have a PCH Explorers kids club event from 10 a.m. to noon. Special characters will make appearances for photos. Activities and crafts for kids will be available. RSVP here.
  • Moonlight Movies will be screening "A League of Their Own" at Granada Beach. The movie starts at sunset but be sure to arrive early to secure a good spot.

Wednesday (Aug. 21)

  • Belmont Shore's Sip & Savor event is back. Second Street will shut down Wednesday and Thursday from 5:30 t0 9 p.m., allowing over 30 restaurants and local shops to offer samples and bites outside. Tickets are $15 for a sheet of 12 and can be purchased starting at 4:30 p.m. in front of Chase Bank the night of the event. Find the map and list of participating businesses here.
  • The Queen Mary is screening "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" at 6 p.m. Parking is $10 after validation and while the event itself is free, a reservation is needed. Link to RSVP can be found here.

Thursday (Aug. 22)

  • Beachwood Brewing will have another music listening night, this time featuring Billy Joel's album "The Stranger." Share memories, favorite tracks and learn more about the album with facts and details about the music shared by the host. The event starts at 6:30 p.m. and early arrival is recommended to grab a seat.
  • Moonlight Movies will show Pixar's "Coco" at Long Beach City College's Liberal Arts Campus.

Friday (Aug. 23)

  • Loiter Galleries will showcase a new exhibition titled "Oasis in the Woods - Land Art Exhibition" highlighting the work of four artists from Chicago. The opening ceremony will run from 6 to 9 p.m. Find out more here.
  • Compound will host a floral workshop at 6 p.m. led by Kevin and Anthony of Plantiitas. Tickets are $65 and materials to build a terrarium are included.
  • Fourth Friday on Retro Row is back with local artist pop-ups, music, food and more. And if you're planning to go, make sure to swing by the Long Beach Watchdog table and say hello!
  • Night Dive at the Aquarium returns for another event where attendees can enjoy live music, a cash bar and after-hour strolling through the various exhibits. More information and tickets can be found here.
  • Outer Limits Tattoo and Museum will host an open house from 6 to 8 p.m.

Saturday (Aug. 24)

  • The Big Gay Pine Avenue Takeover will run from 4 to 10 p.m. General admission is free and Pine Avenue will be closed to vehicle traffic from Third Street to Broadway. There will be live entertainment from drag queens, carnival games, food and drinks, and more. More information here.

Sunday (Aug. 25)

  • The Art Theatre of Long Beach is celebrating the 30th Anniversary of Quentin Tarantino's classic "Pulp Fiction." Screenings on Saturday will include an audience Q&A with actor Stephen Hibbert, who played The Gimp in the film. Tickets can be purchased here.
  • The last free concert at Rancho Los Alamitos will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Los Angeles-based cumbia band Very Be Careful with DJ King Steady Beat are set to perform. Details here.
  • Compound will host an Art for All workshop from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Materials will be provided and the event is free, but a reservation is required. Details here.
