Man killed in shooting in Sunrise neighborhood, police say
The investigation is ongoing but the shooting was "possibly gang related,” according to authorities.
Police are investigating a shooting in the Sunrise neighborhood that left a man dead Wednesday afternoon.
Long Beach police say the man was near 21st Street and Cerritos Avenue around 3:26 p.m. when he was shot once in the upper body.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel took the man to a local hospital where he died of his injuries, according to authorities.
The identity of the victim is being withheld while the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner works to notify his next of kin.
Homicide detectives are still investigating suspect information and the circumstances of the shooting, police said.
While the motive remains under investigation, police said the shooting was "possibly gang related."
A gang-related crime is one committed for the benefit of, at the direction of, or in association with any criminal street gang, according to the LBPD.
