Motorcyclist killed in North Long Beach crash, police say
The motorcyclist ran a red light and hit a SUV around 1:44 a.m. Thursday, according to authorities.
Police are investigating a crash in North Long Beach that left a motorcyclist dead early Thursday morning.
Long Beach police say a man riding a 2026 Honda motorcycle was riding southbound on Atlantic Avenue around 1:44 a.m. when he ran a red light and hit a 2025 Acura SUV that was making a left turn from Villa Park onto northbound Atlantic on a green light.
Officers aided the motorcyclist until relieved by Long Beach Fire Department personnel, who took him to a local hospital where he died of his injuries, according to authorities.
The identity of the motorcyclist is being withheld while the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner works to notify his next of kin, police said.
The driver of the Acura was also taken to a local hospital in stable condition, according to the LBPD.
Police said they are investigating whether speed was a factor in the crash.
Authorities are asking anyone who may have seen the crash to call LBPD Collision Investigation Detail Detective Johnson at 562-570-7132.
This is the 37th traffic fatality reported by the LBPD in 2026. Last year, the department reported 56 traffic-related fatalities from 53 crashes, making it the deadliest year on the road since at least 1990, when the city reported 51 deaths, according to LBPD data from a public records request by the Watchdog.
The LBPD reported 40 traffic fatalities by this time last year.
