October is almost over (how did that happen?). Before it's gone for good, take advantage of all the holiday events that will stack the next two weeks. Most of them are family-friendly and low cost.

Here's your weekly round-up:

Día de los Muertos at MOLAA (Oct. 27)

The Museum of Latin American Art will have its annual Day of the Dead Family Festival this Sunday with programming from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be live music, performances, face-painting for children and more. The event is free, but parking on-site is $15. For more information and programming specifics check here.

Kidical Mass Bike Ride (Oct. 27)

The Kidical Mass Bike Ride will be zombie-themed this week and both kids and adults are encouraged to wear their zombie or Halloween costumes. The neighborhood bike ride will begin at 11 a.m. from Pixie Toys in Bixby Knolls and will be roughly four to four and a half miles. Small treats will be given out for free.

Upcycling Workshop (Oct. 27)

Rancho Los Alamitos will host an upcycling workshop on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. where attendees can turn well-worn socks into pot holders and trivets. All supplies will be provided, but attendees are encouraged to bring their own socks. There will also be a tour of the history Rancho Los Alamitos kitchen. Tickets are priced at $20 per person. Ongoing events: 

  • Dark Harbor is back! The festival will include mazes, live music, themed bars, on-board the Queen Mary experiences, food and more. It will run until Nov. 2. Tickets start at $39.99 and can be purchased here.
  • From now until Jan. 15, you can play a Pixar-themed mini golf at 2ND & PCH for $25 per person. For tee times and ticket purchase visit here.
  • Once a year Long Beach's local artists open their workshops for a free, self-guided open studio tour around the city. From now until Oct. 27, residents can visit more than 50 artist workshops around the city. No ticket is necessary and art from local artists will be available for purchase. Find details here.
  • International City Theatre presents Murder on the Links, a mystery/comedy based on the novel by Agatha Christie, that will run from Oct. 16 to Nov. 3. Ticket prices range from $37 to $89. Ticket purchase and showtimes here.

More happening this week:

Tuesday

  • Want to learn to play pickleball? A few weeks ago we let you know about a more advanced pickleball class, but Tuesday's class is perfect for beginners. It will be from 5:30 to 6:50 p.m. at Marina Vista Park. The class is $12.51 (including fees) per person, paddles are provided. Register here.

Wednesday

  • Experience a guided sunset breathe work practice on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at 58th Place on the ocean side of the Peninsula. Tickets are donation based and you can register here.

Thursday

  • Every second and fourth Thursday of the month the Expo Arts Center has a West African Drum Class. All levels welcome and children are also welcome. The class fee is donation-based. Register here.

Friday

  • LB Shakespeare Company will host the three-night spooky, sci-fi radio-style live on stage show "War of the Worlds" on Friday at 8 p.m. There will also be shows on Saturday and Sunday. General admission tickets are $15. Information here.

Saturday

  • The Belmont Shore Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest will take place along Second Street on Saturday at 9 a.m. There will be over 50 visual artists showcasing their talents and a prize will be given to the artist with the winning piece. Details here for those interested in entering the contest.
  • The Pike Outlets will have Fall Fest from noon to 3 p.m. There will be character meet and greets, artists, kids crafts, music and more. The event is free. Details here.
  • Chef Rob of Liv's on 2nd will host a butternut squash ravioli pasta-making class. The class is $105 and includes the pasta-making lesson, supplies and a three-course menu. Details here.
  • Aquarium of the Pacific will be transformed into Scarium of the Pacific with extended hours and Halloween-themed festivities. There will be costume and coloring contests, a vampire magician, underwater pumpkin carving and more. Tickets are $44.95 for adults and $29.95 for children ages three to 11. Purchase here.

Sunday

  • The Haute Dog Howl'oween Parade will take place on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the beachfront grassy park where the former Belmont Pool used to be west of Rosie's Dog Beach. There will be a pet adoption fair from noon to 4:30 p.m. Information here. The parade of costumed dogs is free to watch. To enter your dog, there is a $10 fee.
  • Rancho Los Cerritos will have a Día de los Muertos celebration on Sunday from 2 to 7 p.m. Admission is free and the event will include live music, activities like crown making, face painting and book reading. More information here.
