Police arrest man suspected of fatal North Long Beach shooting last month
Police say Malik Cooper, 24, of Compton killed 52-year-old Alejandro Calderon on March 17.

A 24-year-old Compton resident has been arrested on suspicion of fatally shooting a man in North Long Beach last month, according to police.
Long Beach police say Malik Cooper shot and killed Hawthorne resident Alejandro Calderon, 52, on March 17.
Officers responded around 3:50 a.m. that night to the 5400 block of Atlantic Avenue, where they found Calderon suffering from a gunshot wound in the upper body.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel took Calderon to a local hospital, where he later died of his injuries, police said.
LBPD detectives later identified Cooper as a suspect in Calderon's slaying, according to authorities. On April 28, he was arrested during a traffic stop in Compton, police said.
Cooper was booked for murder and his bail was set at $2 million, according to the LBPD.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation, police said.
Police ask anyone with information regarding the shooting to call Homicide Detectives Eric Thai or Chasen Contreras at 562-570-7244.
