West Long Beach hit-and-run kills woman, police say
The woman was in a crosswalk Friday night when she was hit by a truck, which then fled the scene, according to authorities.
Police are investigating a hit-and-run crash in West Long Beach that killed a woman Friday night.
Long Beach police say the woman was crossing Baltic Avenue northbound in a marked crosswalk around 7:20 p.m. when she was hit by a white pickup truck driving southbound on Baltic that was attempting to turn onto Burnett Street.
The driver of the truck did not stop and continued eastbound on Burnett, police added.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel gave the woman medical aid and took her to a local hospital, where she died of her injuries, according to authorities.
The identity of the woman is being withheld while the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner works to notify her next of kin, police said.
Though their investigation is ongoing, police said that they don't believe speed, distracted driving or impaired driving were factors in the crash.

This is the 43rd traffic fatality reported by the LBPD in 2026. Last year, the department reported 56 traffic-related fatalities from 53 crashes, making it the deadliest year on the road since at least 1990, when the city reported 51 deaths, according to LBPD data from a public records request by the Watchdog.
The LBPD reported 45 traffic fatalities by this time last year.
