A police investigation is underway after a homeless man was found shot to death in North Long Beach Sunday, authorities said.

Few details about what led up to the fatal shooting are available, but Long Beach police say they found the man’s body just before 7 a.m. in the 600 block of South Street, which is near the Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library.

He’s been shot in the upper body and Long Beach Fire Department personnel declared dead at the scene, they added.

Police identified him as 43-year-old Ali Jabbaar Phannix.

Police ask that witnesses or anyone with more information about the fatal shooting contact detectives at 562-570-7244.
