38-year-old man killed in 2nd suspected gang shooting this week
Durell Shell, a Long Beach resident, was shot near Locust Avenue and 14th Street, and later died at the hospital, according to police.

Long Beach detectives are investigating a shooting that left one man dead in the cityβs Washington neighborhood Tuesday night.
Officers responded to the area of Locust Avenue and 14th Street after reports of gunshots just after 9 p.m., according to the Long Beach Police Department. Evidence of a shooting was found upon arrival.
Police were notified that a man with a gunshot wound had been taken to nearby hospital by a βprivate party,β according to LBPD, who determined the man was the victim from the Locust Avenue incident.
The victim, identified as 38-year-old Long Beach resident Durell Shell, died at the hospital, police said.
Homicide detectives believe the shooting is gang related and are investigating the motive and circumstances of the incident.
A gang-related crime is one committed for the benefit of, at the direction of or in association with any criminal street gang, according to the LBPD.
The incident was the second suspected gang-related murder this week. On Sunday, 32-year-old Long Beach resident Edgar Ortiz-Escamilla died after being shot near Poly High School.
