31-year-old man arrested after firing shots into air, Long Beach police say

Police say they responded to the 1100 block of Hellman Street after reports of shots being fired just after 9:30 p.m.

A 31-year-old Gardena man was arrested Monday night after allegedly firing shots into the air in Long Beach's Hellman neighborhood, according to police.

Police say they received reports of the shots being fired in the 1100 block of Hellman Street just after 9:30 p.m.

There, officers learned someone had fired shots into the air before leaving the area, according to authorities.

Officers identified the suspect as a 31-year-old Gardena man, who they found nearby and took into custody on suspicion of negligent discharge of a firearm and brandishing a firearm, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

No injuries were reported, and the officers seized the man's gun, police said.

The man's bail was set at $35,000, police said, adding that the investigation is ongoing.
