Man killed in West Long Beach hit-and-run, police say
The man was on Anaheim Street near the 710 Freeway Thursday morning when he was hit, according to authorities.
Police are investigating the death of a man killed by a hit-and-run driver in West Long Beach Thursday morning.
Long Beach police say the man was in the westbound lanes of Anaheim Street between Harbor Avenue and the 710 freeway around 7:11 a.m. when he was hit by an unknown vehicle.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel had already determined the man was dead by the time LBPD officers arrived, according to police.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner is still working to identify the man and notify his next of kin, authorities said.
The circumstances of the crash are still under investigation, police said.

This is the 42nd traffic fatality reported by the LBPD in 2026. Last year, the department reported 56 traffic-related fatalities from 53 crashes, making it the deadliest year on the road since at least 1990, when the city reported 51 deaths, according to LBPD data from a public records request by the Watchdog.
The LBPD reported 44 traffic fatalities by this time last year.
