What's Good, LBC? A car show, Lobster Fest, movie screenings and more

Temperatures are supposed to spike again this week, but we've got a list of fun events around town that'll help you beat the heat.

Fall may be well on its way, but this week is expected to be a hot one. Drink water, wear sunscreen, and enjoy some events, both indoor and outdoor, around town to keep you busy.

Advanced Documentary Screening (Sept. 4)

The Art Theatre and Kitchen Lingo will host an advanced screening of "Food and Country" with a Q&A panel hosted by Laurie Ochoa from the L.A. Times featuring Food And Country Director Laura Gabbert; Steve Sutton, founder of TransparentSea Farm; Chef Philip Pretty of Heritage; Chef Brian Bornemann of Crudo é Nudo and Chef Charlie Ray from Watch Me! Sports Bar and the Värt: Sustainable Food Lab in Stockholm, Sweden. The documentary will accompany Ruth Reichl as she explores the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on independent farmers and chefs across the country. Tickets, including the panel discussion, are $13.50 and can be purchased here.

West Coast Lobster Fest (Sept. 6 - 8)

Indulge in all things lobster this weekend at the West Coast Lobster Festival at Rainbow Lagoon Park. Vendors serving up sushi handrolls, pizza, cupcakes, lobster grilled cheese and more as well as jewelry, art and other retail booths will be available at the event. In addition to general admission and VIP tickets (general admission tickets are $7.18 including fees before Sept. 6), attendees can also purchase lobster meal packages including 1.25 pounds of steamed Maine lobster, coleslaw, lemon and dipping butter for $43.21 after fees. To learn more about the event and purchase tickets, check out the website here. The event will begin Friday at 4 p.m. and at noon on Saturday and Sunday.

Belmont Shore Car Show (Sept. 8)

The Belmont Shore Car Show will return Sunday for its 33rd year with approximately 700 cars on display across 14 blocks. The show is free to attend and in addition to the cars will include shopping, vendors, and more. Proceeds will benefit the Long Beach Ronald McDonald House. General admission begins at 9 a.m. and many awards will be given out to registered cars including best paint, best engine and more.

More events happening:

Wednesday

  • Got Your Back will host a three-course and drinks a la carte dinner on Wednesday, Sept. 4. Tickets are priced at $50 and can be purchased through Instagram.

Friday

  • LB Living and Playalarga Events will host Ascend on Pine, a night of music, art, and radical expression. The event is completely free and will take place on Pine Avenue from 4 to 10 p.m.
  • Battambang BBQ will have a 4th Anniversary Country Hoedown Party at Ten Mile Brewing from 4 to 9 p.m. In addition to Chef Chad Phuong, Shlap Muan will be the special food guest and sweets will be provided by Idas Sweets. Giveaways, face painting, and more will also be available to celebrate.

Saturday

  • Long Beach Shakespeare Company presents a production of "Chekhov in Shorts" at The Helen Borgers Theatre which will run from Sept. 7 through Sept. 20. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased here.
  • The Queen Mary will host a disco party beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. DJ Thomas Moves will be spinning disco music all night long. Tickets are priced at $10 and can be purchased here.
  • Good Time coffee will host a monthly market from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. will makers, vintage products, books, art, clothing and more.
  • Celebrate the premiere of "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" with a themed donut from MoonBridge Doughnut Studio available only on Saturday and Sunday this weekend. The shop opens at 7 a.m. and to grab a donut before sell-out early arrival is recommended.

Sunday

  • Buvons will host a seafood boil to celebrate the end of summer on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. Tickets are priced at $35 per person and can be purchased through the Buvons Instagram page.
