Man killed after hit-and-run driver knocks him on Metro tracks, police say
The man was on Long Beach Boulevard near 23rd Street Saturday night when he was hit by a vehicle and then a train, according to authorities.
Police are investigating the death of a pedestrian who was walking on Long Beach Boulevard when they were hit by a vehicle and then a Metro train Saturday night.
Long Beach police say a person was walking on Long Beach Boulevard near 23rd Street around 8:52 p.m when they were hit by a vehicle traveling southbound. A Metro train then hit the pedestrian, police added.
The vehicle that first struck the victim fled the scene, according to police.
Authorities determined the pedestrian had died at the scene, police said.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner is working to identify the victim, according to authorities. The City News Service reports that the victim is a man.
Police said the investigation is ongoing, and don't yet know if speed, distracted driving or impaired driving contributed to the crash.
Police are asking anyone who may have seen the crash to call LBPD Collision Investigation Detail Detective Edwin Paredes at 562-570-7110.
This is the 36th traffic fatality reported by the LBPD in 2026. Last year, the department reported 56 traffic-related fatalities from 53 crashes, making it the deadliest year on the road since at least 1990, when the city reported 51 deaths, according to LBPD data from a public records request by the Watchdog.
The LBPD reported 39 traffic fatalities by this time last year.
