Suspects in allegedly stolen vehicle arrested after police chase in Long Beach

Police say they’ve arrested two people who led them on a brief chase in a stolen vehicle from Cambodia Town to the area of 14th Street Park Monday evening.

Officers responded just after 6 p.m. to the 1900 block of 14th Street after someone reported a drug sale going on in the area, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

When they got to the area, the officers found the vehicle allegedly involved in the drug sale and tried to pull them over, police said.

The driver of the vehicle instead took off and the officers gave chase, authorities said.

When they got to the area near 14th Street Park, the driver and another person bailed from the car and tried to run away, police said.

Despite their efforts to flee, the officers found both suspects a short time later and took them into custody, according to the LBPD.

During the arrest, one of the suspects was taken down by police and was injured in the process, authorities said.

That suspect was then taken to a local hospital for treatment, police said, adding that the injury is minor.

Police did not elaborate on what the suspects were being arrested on suspicion of or whether the officers found any evidence connecting the suspects to the alleged drug sale.

The LBPD said the officers later found out the vehicle the suspects were in had been reported stolen.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
