Man dies after e-scooter hits pickup truck, police say
The man was riding in Los Altos when he drifted into oncoming traffic, according to authorities.
Police are investigating the death of a 31-year-old Long Beach man after he crashed an e-scooter into a pickup truck in Los Altos Monday morning.
Long Beach police say the man had just turned onto Walton Street from Stanbridge Avenue around 10 a.m. when he drifted into oncoming traffic and hit a 2024 Toyota Tundra pickup truck heading eastbound on Walton, according to authorities.
The driver of the pickup truck, a 42-year-old Long Beach resident, "saw the scooter approaching and was in the process of slowing to a stop when the collision occurred," the LBPD said in a statement.
LBPD officers, a good samaritan and Long Beach Fire Department personnel gave the man medical aid, but he died of his injuries at the scene, according to authorities.
The man's identity is being withheld while the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner works to notify his next of kind, police said.
At this time, police said they do not believe speed, distracted driving or impaired driving were factors in the crash.

This is the 31st traffic fatality reported by the LBPD in 2026. Last year, the department reported 56 traffic-related fatalities from 53 crashes, making it the deadliest year on the road since at least 1990, when the city reported 51 deaths, according to LBPD data from a public records request by the Watchdog.
The LBPD reported 34 traffic fatalities by this time last year.
