Police arrest 18-year-old in connection to fatal shooting in North Long Beach last month
Police say Mario Amarion Jennings of Rancho Cucamonga is responsible for fatally shooting 32-year-old Dwayne Walton in the 900 block of Via Carmelitos on Dec. 10, 2024.
An 18-year-old Rancho Cucamonga resident has been arrested on suspicion of fatally shooting a man in North Long Beach last month, according to police.
Long Beach police say Mario Amarion Jennings, 18, shot and killed Dwayne Walton, 32, on Dec. 10, 2024.
Officers responded around 1:14 p.m. that day to the 900 block of Via Carmelitos where they found Walton, a Long Beach resident, with multiple gunshot wounds.
Authorities rendered aid to Walton, but he died at the scene, police said.
Detectives eventually identified Jennings as a suspect in Walton’s slaying, and with help from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department SWAT team, took him into custody in Rancho Cucamonga Thursday on suspicion of murder, according to the LBPD.
Jennings has since been taken back to Long Beach where he is being held on $3 million bail, police said.
The circumstances behind the shooting, including a motive, remain unclear.
Police ask anyone with more information to contact detectives at 562-570-7244.
