Police are searching for 3 suspects who robbed off-duty cop in Bixby Knolls
The officer was near Bixby Road and Orange Avenue when the suspects robbed him around 1:30 p.m. Sunday, authorities said.
Authorities are asking for the public's help in identifying three suspects who robbed an off-duty police officer in Bixby Knolls Sunday afternoon.
Long Beach police say that two Black men in their late teens or early 20s robbed an the man at gunpoint near Bixby Road and Orange Avenue around 1:30 p.m. on July 12.
The officer then fired multiple shots toward the two men as they fled, according to police.
Homicide detectives now believe a third suspect was involved in the robbery, but have no description of that person, police added.
Police said they believe all three suspects fled the scene in a Black 2006-2011 Mercedes ML 350. That vehicle was last seen traveling southbound on Orange Avenue from 37th Street following the robbery, according to the LBPD.
The department also released surveillance camera footage of the car traveling down an alley after the robbery.
According to the LBPD, the Mercedes has the following:
- Temporary registration sticker in front window on the passenger side;
- 5 spoke wheels, which appear to be factory;
- Tinted windows (right front passenger, right rear passenger and the rear window was broken out/damaged);
- A temporary California license plate at the time of the robbery;
- Prior damage to right passenger doors;
- Missing chrome molding on the right rear door;
- Missing center cap on the right front tire;
- Black roof rails;
- A sunroof.

All three suspects are considered armed and dangerous, and anyone who sees the vehicle should call 9-1-1 immediately, police said.
Police are asking anyone with knowledge of the robbery to call Homicide Detectives Hutchinson or Valenzuela at 562-570-7244.
