Pedestrian killed in Downtown hit-and-run, police say
The man was crossing Ocean Boulevard outside of a crosswalk when he was hit by three vehicles, none of which stopped, Monday night, according to authorities.
Police are investigating the death of a man who was hit by three vehicles in the Downtown area Monday night. None of the drivers stopped.
Long Beach police say the man was crossing Ocean Boulevard near Golden Shore outside of a crosswalk around 10:44 p.m. when he was hit by a person driving a black vehicle traveling eastbound in the number two lane. The driver of that vehicle then continued heading east on Ocean, police said.
The man, still in the road, was then hit by people driving a white truck and red sedan, according to police. Both of those drivers also fled the scene, police said.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel determined that the pedestrian died of his injuries at the scene, according to authorities.
The name of the pedestrian is being withheld while the Los Angeles County Department of the Medical Examiner works to identify him, police said.
Authorities are asking anyone who may have seen the crash to call LBPD Collision Investigation Detail Detective Ashley Van Holland at 562-570-7355.
This is the 27th traffic fatality reported by the LBPD in 2026. Last year, the department reported 56 traffic-related fatalities from 53 crashes, making it the deadliest year on the road since at least 1990, when the city reported 51 deaths, according to LBPD data from a public records request by the Watchdog.
The LBPD reported 31 traffic fatalities by this time last year.
