Police arrested a 69-year-old Long Beach woman suspected of fatally assaulting a woman near Long Beach Airport, authorities said Sunday.
Long Beach police say Estela Jaramillo Rodriguez allegedly physically assaulted another woman in the 2600 block of Grand Avenue around 7:26 p.m. Saturday.
LBPD officers found the unresponsive victim after arriving at the scene, police said. Long Beach Fire Department personnel gave the victim aid before finding that she had died of her injuries, according to authorities.
The victim's identity is being withheld while the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner works to notify her next of kin, police said.
Police arrested Rodriguez near the scene, according to the LBPD. The motive for the attack is unclear.
Rodriguez was then booked at Long Beach City Jail for murder, police said. Her bail was set at $2 million, according to authorities.
LBPD detectives will present the case to the L.A. County District Attorney's office for filing consideration, police said.
The investigation is ongoing, but authorities are asking anyone with information about the case to call LBPD Homicide Detectives Gamboa and Asato at 562-570-7244.
