Pedestrian dies after being hit by truck near MacArthur Park, Long Beach police say

A man died Saturday night after being hit by a truck while crossing the street just west of MacArthur Park, Long Beach police said.

Police say the man was crossing the street outside of a marked crosswalk near the area of Anaheim Street and Orange Avenue sometime around 11 p.m.

That’s when the driver of a newer model Chevrolet Silverado going westbound on Anaheim Street hit him and drove off, according to the LBPD.

Officers responded to the scene where Long Beach Fire personnel were already treating the pedestrian, police said. Despite their efforts, the pedestrian died at the scene, they added.

His identity was not immediately revealed as the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office works to notify his relatives.

Police, meanwhile, are asking anyone who may have more information about the crash to contact detectives at 562-570-7355.
