Pedestrian dies after being hit by car along Pacific Coast Highway, Long Beach police say
Police say the pedestrian was crossing the street outside of a marked crosswalk near Pacific Coast Highway and Pasadena Avenue Thursday night when he was struck by someone driving a car.
Detectives are investigating a crash just west of Poly High School that left a man dead Thursday night, authorities said Friday.
Long Beach police says the man was walking outside of a marked crosswalk near the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Pasadena Avenue shortly before midnight, when someone driving a 2017 Lexus westbound on PCH hit him.
Authorities rushed to the area where they found the pedestrian in the roadway, police said.
The pedestrian died after being taken to a local hospital for treatment, police said, adding that his identity was not revealed as the Los Angeles Medical Examinerβs office works to notify his relatives.
The driver of the Lexus stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said.
Though detectives are still looking into more details, police believe speed, distracted driving and impaired driving were not factors in the crash.
Police ask anyone with more information to contact detectives at 562-570-7355.
PCH continues to be one of the cityβs deadliest roads in Long Beach, accounting for five out of 28 fatal crashes this year.
In 2023, eight out of 36 crashes happened in that area of the city.
Caltrans is considering adding bike lanes to that stretch of PCH, which could lead to slower cars on the highway, but no work would be completed until at least 2027.
