Long Beach prosecutor's office charges woman involved in March brawl at Pike Outlets
City Prosecutor Doug Haubert said Friday that his office had filed three misdemeanor charges against an 18-year-old woman, including resisting arrest and battery.
An 18-year-old woman from Compton is being charged with three misdemeanors for her role in a large fight that broke out at the Pike Outlets in March, the Long Beach City Prosecutor’s office announced Friday.
City Prosecutor Doug Haubert said in a release that his office filed charges against Passion Monnay Mason of Compton for battery, resisting arrest and challenging a person to a fight in public.
Each is a misdemeanor, with resisting arrest being punishable by up to a year in jail under California law.
The March 16 fight took place amid a large group of minors and young adults who swarmed the Pike following a social media post that called for a gathering at the shopping center that day.
Video of the brawl showed two girls fighting in the middle of dozens of teenagers. Both were arrested.
The prosecutor’s office decided to move forward with charges against Mason because she is an adult, Haubert said. The other girl’s case is being handled by the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office, which has jurisdiction over juveniles.
Haubert said he met with Long Beach Police Department investigators to discuss the possibility of bringing criminal charges against parents who allow their children to meet up at events like the March brawl.
Mason is expected to be arraigned Thursday at the George Duekmejian Courthouse Downtown.
