No arrests at DUI checkpoint in West Long Beach, police say
Fifteen drivers were cited for driving with a suspended license or without a license, according to the LBPD.
Police say they cited 15 people during a DUI checkpoint in West Long Beach Friday night.
The checkpoint, which Long Beach police say promotes "public safety, increasing awareness of the dangers associated with drinking and driving, and deterring impaired and unlicensed/suspended drivers," was posted at the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Daisy Avenue from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., according to police.
Of the 869 vehicles that passed through the checkpoint, 391 were screened, according to the LBPD. Police said they cited 15 people at the checkpoint for driving without a license or with a suspended license.
DUI checkpoint locations are typically placed in areas having a reported history of crashes involving impaired drivers, police said.
Funding for the checkpoint is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, according to the LBPD.
