Police say they're investigating a shooting in North Long Beach early Tuesday morning that left a man hospitalized.

The man was fighting with a group of men in the 2600 block of 56th Way around midnight when someone shot him multiple times, according to Long Beach police. The group then left the scene, police said.

When officers arrived, they found the man with gunshot wounds to the upper and lower body, according to the LBPD.

He was taken by Long Beach Fire personnel to a local hospital for treatment, police added, though they did not provide information on his condition.

It's unclear what prompted the fight or whether the men knew each other.
