Man fatally shot in West Long Beach; suspect arrested, police say
Police say Long Beach resident Trayen Gaston, 30, fatally shot his roommate Tyrone Crawford, 64.
Detectives have arrested a man on suspicion of killing his roommate in West Long Beach, according to police.
Officers responded to the 3000 block of Gold Star Drive just before 9 a.m. Tuesday after receiving a call about a possible suicide, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
When they arrived, they found 64-year-old Long Beach resident Tyrone Crawford with a gunshot wound to the upper body, police said. Crawford died at the scene, according to authorities.
Homicide detectives responding to the scene found evidence indicating that Crawford had been shot by his roommate, 30-year-old Trayen Gaston, police said.
Gaston, who was still at the scene, was taken into custody on suspicion of murder, being a prohibited possessor in possession of a firearm and being a prohibited possessor in possession of ammunition, according to the LBPD. His bail was set at $2 million.
A motive for the shooting remains under investigation, police said.
Detectives will present the case against Gaston later this week to the Los Angeles County District's Attorney Office for filing consideration, police added.
Police ask anyone with more information on the shooting to contact detectives at 562-570-7244.
