Long Beach man arrested after pursuit ends with crash, gun seizure, police say
Nobody was seriously injured in the crash Friday night, but the suspect was arrested on suspicion of DUI and a litany of other crimes.
A Long Beach man was arrested after leading police on a pursuit that ended with a crash in Paramount Friday night, authorities say.
The Long Beach Police Department said officers saw 25-year-old Dayton Thomask Nihipali commit multiple traffic violations near the intersection of Orange Avenue and 70th Way in North Long Beach just before 8:40 p.m.
When the officers tried to pull him over, Nihipali refused, according to police, and drove away.
He led officers on a brief pursuit into Paramount where he crashed into another car at the intersection of Orange Avenue and Alondra Boulevard two blocks away, police said.
Nihipali and the other driver suffered minor injuries in the crash and were taken to a local hospital for treatment, police said.
Meanwhile, officers seized two loaded guns — one of which is a ghost gun, which means it does not have serial number and is untraceable — from Nihipali, they added.
After being medically cleared, Nihipali was taken to Long Beach City Jail where he was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence, reckless evading of a police officer, prohibited possessor in possession of a firearm, prohibited possessor in possession of ammunition, possession of a large capacity magazine and possession of a firearm without a serial number.
His bail is pending review by a judge, police said, adding that the investigation is ongoing.
