Police arrested two Los Angeles residents, one of whom is a teen, in connection with the robbery of an off-duty police officer in Bixby Knolls last month.

Long Beach police say Mellaki Easter, 22, and a 16-year-old boy allegedly robbed the officer at gunpoint near Bixby Road and Orange Avenue around 1:30 p.m. on July 12.

The officer then fired multiple shots toward the two suspects as they fled, according to police.

Through their investigation, LBPD detectives identified the two suspects and learned that they were allegedly involved in another robbery in Los Angeles, police said.

On the morning of Friday, Aug. 7, LBPD and LAPD SWAT units served search warrants in Los Angeles, according to police.

Easter was arrested by LBPD officers in the 1300 block of 118th Street in Los Angeles, police said.

The teen, whose identity is being withheld because of his age, was arrested about a mile away, in the 12200 block of Elva Avenue in Los Angeles by LAPD officers, according to police.

Both suspects were then transported to Long Beach City Jail.

Easter was booked for two counts of robbery and one count of assault with a deadly weapon, according to authorities.

Easter’s bail was set at $100,000, police added.

The teen suspect was booked for two counts of robbery and one count of assault with a deadly weapon, authorities said. He is being held without bail, according to the LBPD.

Detectives will present the case to the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration, police added.

The investigation into the robbery is ongoing, police said.

Authorities are asking anyone with information on the robbery to contact LBPD Homicide Detectives Hutchinson or Valenzuela at 562-570-7244.
