Police are investigating a shooting in Central Long Beach that left a man injured Friday night, authorities said.

Long Beach police say they responded to the 300 block of 17th Street around 8:32 p.m following reports of an assault with a deadly weapon. The officers who arrived on scene found a man with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his lower body, police said.

The gunshot victim refused to cooperate with the LBPD's investigation, the department said. Long Beach Fire Department personal took him to a local hospital, according to authorities.

The circumstances and motive for the shooting are under investigation, police said.
