Pull out your bikes, roller skates, skateboards or just good pair of walking shoes — the city's popular Beach Streets event is coming to West Long Beach Saturday.

The event will see Willow Street from Santa Fe Avenue to Long Beach Boulevard close to cars, as well as southbound Santa Fe Avenue from Willow Street to 20th Street and a small westbound section of Hill Street off Santa Fe Avenue, according to the city's Office of Special Events and Filming.

There will be entertainment hubs along the route at Admiral Kidd Park, Hudson Park and on Willow Street between Pacific Avenue and Long Beach Boulevard with musical performances from DJ Las Chicas Tristes, The Smokin' 60s, Mariachi Divas and Long Beach Undercover, city officials said.

In a news release, officials said they hope the annual car-free event will "uplift" their Westside Promise Initiative, a 10-year community investment plan that is attempting to address current and historic challenges facing West Long Beach residents and businesses.

The official welcome ceremony will start at 11:30 a.m. at the main stage of the Willow Street Hub, according to city officials. This hub will feature a variety of live music and performances, resource booths with information about the Westside Promise and a beer garden hosted by Long Beach Beer Lab.

The Hudson Park hub will be the dedicated Beach Streets Kid Zone and will feature live performances by DJ Mike, as well as skate demos, a game truck, inflatables, face painting, food trucks and more, city officials said.

The Admiral Kidd hub will feature live performances by DJ Andres Renteria and DJ Elvin Estela, food trucks and a resource fair. The event will include multiple other live performances along the route, including DJ Otro Patrick Miller on the Willow Street bridge over the 710 freeway, DJ Desirable D on the corner of Willow Street and Santa Fe Avenue and DJ Dennis Owens at Long Beach Beer Lab. which is located 518 W. Willow St.

Beach Streets promotes walking, biking and public transit — basically getting around without the use of a car. Long Beach began hosting the events in 2015, and previous iterations took place in Uptown, Downtown, Bixby Knolls, Cambodia Town, Zaferia, Willmore, Wrigley and East Long Beach near Cal State Long Beach, according to city officials.
