Alamitos library to close for maintenance for much of March
The nearly century-old library will be shuttered for nearly three weeks for termite treatment and lead abatement, city officials said.

The nearly 100-year-old Alamitos Neighborhood Library in Bluff Park will close for much of March for maintenance, city officials announced this week.
The closure will begin Tuesday, March 4 for maintenance that includes termite treatment and lead abatement, according to Long Beach Public Library officials. The maintenance is scheduled to continue through Saturday, March 22, allowing the branch to reopen on Tuesday, March 25 (the library is not open on Sundays or Mondays).
This maintenance is part of a Measure A improvement project that will extend the life of the library, make it more efficient and improve the overall experience for patrons, city officials said.
All digital resources at the library, including e-books and online databases, will remain available through the Long Beach Public Library website, according to the city. All other Long Beach Public Library locations will remain open during their normal operating hours.
The Spanish-style Alamitos library, with its alabaster walls and ornate black metal railings, is located at 1836 E. Third Street. The building opened in 1929, replacing an early library that was constructed in 1897, according to the city's public library website.
