Woman found dead after fire near San Gabriel River and 2nd Street, police say
Police say the woman's body was found after firefighters put out a brush fire early Sunday morning.
Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a woman who was found following a brush fire in East Long Beach Sunday morning, according to police.
It's unclear how the woman died, but authorities say they found her body after the Long Beach Fire Department put out a brush fire along Second Street and the San Gabriel River just before 4:30 a.m.
"At this time, the motive and circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation," the Long Beach Police Department said in a statement Sunday afternoon.
Detectives are working to identify possible suspects, according to the LBPD.
The woman's identity has yet to be revealed as the Los Angeles Medical Examiner's Office works to notify her relatives.
So far in 2024, Long Beach has seen 38 murders, according to data tracked by the Watchdog. There were 26 murders in the city in 2023, according to police data.
