Man dead after being struck by fire truck outside Belmont Shore station
Police say fire department personnel were leaving the station to head to a service call around 12:39 a.m. when they struck the man, who was lying down in front of the station’s roll up door.
A 61-year-old man died early Tuesday morning after being hit by a fire engine outside the Long Beach Fire Department’s Belmont Shore station, according to authorities.
Police say firefighters were called to service at around 12:39 a.m. and were leaving the station when they struck a man who was lying on the ground in front of the building’s roll up doors.
The man, who was identified as Long Beach resident Michael Ross, died at the scene, police said.
The firefighters remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the individual involved and his family,” the LBFD said in a statement.
The LBFD also said they’d be providing the firefighters involved with “critical incident” stress management.
