No arrests at East Long Beach DUI checkpoint, police say
Ten drivers were cited for driving with a suspended license or without a license, according to the LBPD.
Police say they made no arrests but cited 10 people at a DUI checkpoint in East Long Beach Friday night.
The checkpoint, which Long Beach police say promotes "public safety, increasing awareness of the dangers associated with drinking and driving, and deterring impaired and unlicensed/suspended drivers," was posted at the intersection of Anaheim Street and Freeman Avenue from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., according to police.
Of the 1012 vehicles that passed through the checkpoint, 372 were screened, according to the LBPD. Police said they made no arrests at the checkpoint but cited 10 people for driving without a license or with a suspended license.
This was the LBPD's fourth DUI checkpoint set up in East Long Beach this year.
DUI checkpoint locations are typically placed in areas having a reported history of crashes involving impaired drivers, police said.
Funding for the checkpoint is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, according to the LBPD.
