Cory Scales, 20, was driving near 12th Street and Lewis Avenue when he was shot Friday night, according to authorities.
Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a Long Beach man who was driving in the St. Mary's neighborhood Friday night.
Long Beach police say 20-year-old Cory Scales was driving in the area of 12th Street and Lewis Avenue around 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 14 when he was shot.
After being shot, Scales apparently drove his vehicle into a utility pole, police added.
Officers at the scene gave Scales medical aid until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived and took him to a local hospital in critical condition, authorities said.
Scales died of his injuries two days later, according to the LBPD.
The suspect or suspects in the shooting fled the scene before officers arrived, police said.
The motive and circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation, according to police.
LBPD detectives believe there may be additional witnesses to the shooting and its aftermath, police said.
Authorities are asking anyone who may have seen the shooting to call LBPD Homicide Detectives Ethan Shear or Kelsey Myers at 562-570-7244.
