Caltrans to hold meeting Thursday on Vincent Thomas Bridge construction detours
Starting late next year, the 60-year-old bridge will close for 16 months for replacement of its concrete deck.
State transportation officials on Thursday will host the first of several meetings to get public input on detour routes and traffic management during upcoming construction on the Vincent Thomas Bridge.
Caltrans plans to replace the deteriorating concrete deck of the 60-year-old bridge, with construction potentially starting in late 2025. The roughly 2,500-foot suspension bridge sees an average of 53,000 vehicles a day, according to an environmental study for the project.
The work will close the bridge completely for 16 months, which has residents and local officials worried that some traffic – including heavy trucks visiting the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach – may end up in their communities.
The meeting will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, at the Wilmington Recreation Center, 325 N. Neptune Ave., Wilmington. More information on the project is at this link.
