80-year-old shoots at woman, prompts SWAT response in North Long Beach, police say
Police say they deployed a type of gas to take 80-year-old Long Beach man Salvador Salazar into custody on suspicion of attempted murder.
An 80-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after shooting at a woman and prompting a SWAT response in North Long Beach Wednesday night, according to police.
Long Beach resident Salvador Salazar, 80, walked out of a home in the 5800 block of Falcon Avenue around 9:30 p.m. and shot at a woman, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
The woman was not struck by the gunfire, and Salazar walked back into the home, police said.
When police got to the scene, they established a perimeter around the crime scene and tried to get Salazar to walk back outside, authorities said.
Eventually, LBPD’s SWAT team responded and attempted to de-escalate the situation, police said.
Using a type of gas on the home, the SWAT team was able to get the suspect to surrender, police said, adding that they were able to seize a gun at the scene.
Police did not say what type of gas the SWAT team used.
Salazar was taken to a local hospital following the incident to be medically cleared, police said.
He was then booked on suspicion of attempted murder and his bail was set at $1 million, police said.
The investigation is ongoing, they added.
