1 arrested at DUI checkpoint in East Long Beach, police say
Three other drivers were cited for driving with a suspended license or without a license at the June 18 checkpoint, according to authorities.
Police say they arrested one person and cited three others during a DUI checkpoint in East Long Beach Thursday night.
The checkpoint, which Long Beach police say promotes "public safety, increasing awareness of the dangers associated with drinking and driving, and deterring impaired and unlicensed/suspended drivers," was posted at the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Second Street from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., according to police.
Of the 1173 vehicles that passed through the checkpoint, 372 were screened, according to the LBPD. Police said they arrested one person at the checkpoint for driving under the influence and cited another three people for driving without a license or with a suspended license.
This was the LBPD's third DUI checkpoint set up in East Long Beach this year.
DUI checkpoint locations are typically placed in areas having a reported history of crashes involving impaired drivers, police said.
Funding for the checkpoint is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, according to the LBPD.
