What's Good, LBC? Cambodian Food Festival, pet fair, artist workshops and more

The pre-Halloween festivities are ramping up this week. In addition to spooky show at the Playhouse and Dark Harbor, there will be a Halloween Spectacular, Howl-O-Week Festival, and more.

We're half way through the month — how did that happen? As we creep closer to Halloween, there are more events than ever to celebrate the holiday. From family-friendly festivals to things that'll make you want to sleep with the lights on.

Here's your weekly round-up:

Artist Workshop (Oct. 17)

CSULB will host artist Emily Marchand who will lead a workshop on mutual aid practices at 11 a.m. Attendees can explore the art exhibits at the Kleefeld Contemporary Art Museum. This is the first of a two-part event. More information can be found here.

Cambodian Food Festival (Oct. 19)

Cambodian Food Festival will take place Saturday at Ten Mile Brewing from noon to 8 p.m. The festival will include beloved Cambodian restaurants and pop-ups including Battambong BBQ, The Golden Skewer, PV Grill, Sophy's, Shlap Man, Ida's Sweets and more.

Long Beach Pet Fair (Oct. 19 and 20)

The 3rd annual Long Beach Pet Fair will take place this weekend at Marina Green Park. The event is free, but a suggested donation of $5 is requested at entry. There will be over 50 rescues, shelters and vendors represented. More information and fair hours here. Ongoing events: 

  • Dark Harbor is back! The festival will include mazes, live music, themed bars, on-board the Queen Mary experiences, food and more. It will run until Nov. 2. Tickets start at $39.99 and can be purchased here.
  • The Passion of Dracula, a new show playing on the Long Beach Playhouse's MainStage Theater will run through Oct. 19. Tickets ($35) can be purchased here.
  • From now until Jan. 15, you can play a Pixar-themed mini golf at 2ND & PCH for $25 per person. For tee times and ticket purchase visit here.
  • Once a year Long Beach's local artists open their workshops for a free, self-guided open studio tour around the city. From now until Oct. 27, residents can visit more than 50 artist workshops around the city. No ticket is necessary and art from local artists will be available for purchase. Find details here.

Wednesday

  • Compound will host another Chef Supper Club this Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. The dinner will be a Kamayan Dinner Feast curated by Chef Eugene Santiago, Catherine Tolentino of Gemmae Bake Shop and Luna Sallusti of Buvons. Tickets are $150 per person and include five courses and a wine pairing (or non-alcoholic option). Reserve a seat here.
  • International City Theatre presents Murder on the Links, a mystery/comedy based on the novel by Agatha Christie, that will run from Oct. 16 to Nov. 3. Ticket prices range from $37 to $89. Ticket purchase and showtimes here.

Thursday

  • Knights of the (Turn)Table is back. This Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Beachwood Brewing "Are we not men?" by Devo will be listened to and discussed. It will be opening seating, but RSVP is recommended.

Friday

  • Bel Canto Books will host children's book author Jocelyn Chung on Friday at noon. There will be story time and a book signing. RSVP here.
  • The Lakewood Center will have a free, family-friendly Friday market from 5 to 9 p.m. with over 60 vendors, over 10 food vendors, trick-or-treating, photo opportunities and free activities for kids. Information and tickets for photo opportunities found here.

Saturday

  • Long Beach Airport's Festival of Flight is a free event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. The festival will have aircraft on display, live music, activities for kids, food and beer trucks and helicopter rides. Detailed information can be found here.
  • Long Beach Towne Center will have a Halloween Spooktacular Event from noon to 2 p.m. There will be live music, trick-or-treating stations, balloon twisters, special character meet and greets, themed kids’ crafts and face painters. No RSVP or tickets needed. Information here.
  •  El Dorado Nature Center will allow residents to trick or treat on the trails, visit the animal education village, have fun in a pumpkin patch and enjoy some snacks from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday. The event is free, but there is a suggested donation of $5. Details here.
  • Autumn Jazz at The Shell Concert returns for its third year this Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m. The Pat Sheng Quartet featuring Terrence Taylor will perform jazz and Long Beach City College Jazz will open the show. It will be the last concert of the 2024 season. Details here.
  • Shoreline Village's annual Long Beach Zombie Walk and Halloween Party returns Saturday from 4 to 10 p.m. No tickets are required, but RSVP is recommended. The full schedule of events, including free face painting, live music, trick-or-treating, and more, can be found here.

Sunday

  • The Long Beach Museum of Art is hosting a family art making workshop on Sunday at 11 a.m. The event is completely free and no RSVP is required. Details here.
