Think you're pretty sharp? Prove it at 'Pup Quiz' a trivia night hosted by the Watchdog
Watchdog journalists will test your knowledge at Altar Society on Thursday for a night of prizes and drinks that will benefit local media.
If you’re reading this, I probably don’t need to tell you that Los Angeles County’s media landscape is in a tough spot right now.
The year began with L.A. Times cutting 20% of its newsroom. This month, the impending doom of buyouts and possible layoffs hit LAist. And the Watchdog is essentially the phoenix that rose from the ashes of the Long Beach Post after it gutted 60% of its newsroom in March.
Needless to say, 2024 has been bad news for the news industry. But all of that doesn’t change the fact that we need a strong press here in Long Beach. That’s why we’re working to build the Watchdog — currently the city’s largest newsroom — into a sustainable entity.
We need your help to do that, but we’re going to try and have a little fun while we’re at it by throwing regular parties and events with prizes and opportunities for you to meet the journalists who have been covering this city for years.

On Thursday (May 30), we’re inviting you to 'PUP QUIZ!', a trivia night at Altar Society Brewing & Coffee Co. in Downtown Long Beach. There will be beer, prizes and seven categories presented by a handful of Watchdog journalists. Prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams. We’ve also got a bonus prize for the best team name.
If you smash this registration button here it’s only $10 per person. Otherwise, it’s $15 at the door — but maybe that’s okay with you because all of the proceeds will go right back into the Watchdog.
You can register a team of up to six together, or have each member register individually. Arriving solo? That’s cool, single players are more than welcome, or we can put you on a team. It’s up to you.
If you think you’re up to the challenge or you just want to come have a drink with our journalists and donate in person, we hope to see you a 6 p.m. this Thursday.
Altar Society Brewing and Coffee Co. is located at 230 Pine Ave. Long Beach Watchdog presents PUP QUIZ! will run from 6 to 9 p.m.
