Bicyclist killed in West Long Beach crash, police say
The 68-year-old man was hit by a tractor-trailer on Sept. 4 and died the next day, according to authorities.
Police are investigating a West Long Beach crash that killed a bicyclist earlier this month.
Long Beach police say the man was riding his bike westbound on the sidewalk of Pacific Coast Highway near Canal Avenue around 11:03 p.m. on Sept. 4 when he was hit by a tractor-trailer rig that was exiting the parking lot of a restaurant.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel took the victim to a local hospital, where he died of his injuries the next day, according to authorities.
Police identified the victim only as a 68-year-old Long Beach resident.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner told the LBPD about the man's death on Sept. 10, police said.
At this time, police are investigating whether speed was a factor in the crash, according to the LBPD.

This is the 39th traffic fatality reported by the LBPD in 2026. Last year, the department reported 56 traffic-related fatalities from 53 crashes, making it the deadliest year on the road since at least 1990, when the city reported 51 deaths, according to LBPD data from a public records request by the Watchdog.
The LBPD reported 42 traffic fatalities by this time last year.
