The USGS reported that the 2.2-magnitude earthquake struck just before 8 a.m. near Terminal Island.
Anything below a 2.5 magnitude is generally considered a small earthquake and is typically not felt.
But several people in Long Beach and the South Bay area, which includes Carson, Lomita and Torrance, reported feeling a weak jolt, according to the USGS.
