Police arrest suspect in shooting death near Downtown last month
Lefulefu Kaio Pasa Jr., 29, of Long Beach allegedly shot another man to death on July 31, according to authorities.
Police arrested a 29-year-old Long Beach man in connection with the shooting death of another man near Downtown last month.
Long Beach police allege Lefulefu Kaio Pasa Jr. shot 38-year-old Ali Darren Muhammad Azim in the 700 block of Magnolia Avenue around 1 a.m. on July 31.
LBPD officers gave Azim aid until relieved by Long Beach Fire Department personnel, who determined he had died of his injuries, authorities said.
Homicide detectives later identified Pasa as a suspect in the shooting, police said.
On Wednesday, the LBPD SWAT team served a search warrant in the 600 block of Cedar Avenue, according to police. It was during that operation that officers arrested Pasa, police added.
Pasa was booked for murder, authorities said. His bail was set at $2 million.
Detectives will present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office for filing consideration, police said.
The motive and circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation, police added.
