Long Beach police shot and killed a man who they say refused to drop a gun while at MacArthur Park in Cambodia Town Wednesday afternoon.

Officers responded to the 1300 block of East Anaheim Street sometime around 4:20 p.m. following reports of a man with a gun, according to LBPD.

When officers arrived at the park, they found the man but he refused to put down his gun, the department said.

After the man failed to comply with multiple demands from officers to put down his gun, at least one officer shot him, according to authorities.

Officers treated the man for his injuries at the scene before Long Beach Fire personnel arrived and took over, police said. The man was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.

Police have not identified the man.

Police did not say whether the gunman pointed the weapon at the officers at any point during the incident or acted in a manner where officers feared for their lives. No officers were injured and a loaded firearm was seized at the scene, police said.

Detectives are investigating the incident, according to the department, and no other injuries were reported.

Officers were equipped with body-worn cameras, and the footage will eventually be available to the public after it's reviewed by the department, they added.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office will also review the case, a standard practice after a shooting involving an officer.
