City officials kick off 'Spring Cleaning' initiative by picking up trash at Alamitos Beach
City leaders hope to spruce up parks and other public spaces, while encouraging residents to tidy up their own neighborhoods.
Long Beach officials announced the city’s new “Spring Cleaning” initiative Wednesday during a press conference at Alamitos Beach, followed by a beach cleanup to kick off the citywide beautification project.
The effort involves several community cleanups that will “beautify beaches, parks and public spaces,” according to a city news release.
During the event, Mayor Rex Richardson invited the community to join in by “working together with your neighbors and helping to get Long Beach ready for the summer.”
The month-long effort encourages community members to volunteer for city-sponsored cleanups as well as host their own events to clean up the city, officials said.
“It will take a community-wide effort to make Long Beach what it needs to be,” Councilmember Mary Zendejas said during the event. “So join hands with us and let’s clean up Long Beach together.”
