A man driving a mini motorcycle died Wednesday afternoon when he crashed into the side of a semi-truck in West Long Beach, police announced today.

Police say the driver of the motorcycle was traveling westbound close to the curb of Anaheim Street around 4:46 p.m. when he crashed into the passenger side of a semi-truck as it made a left turn from Anaheim Street onto Hayes Avenue.

Officers arrived at the scene and found the driver of the minibike lying in the roadway, police said. He died at the scene, they added.

Police identified him as 50-year-old Nicholas Kusmich of Long Beach.

The driver of the semi-truck remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said.

Police said distracted driving may have been a factor in the crash. Neither of them, however, were believed to be speeding or driving under the influence, police said.

Police ask anyone with more information to contact detectives at 562-570-7355.
