Man shot while sitting in car, Long Beach police say

Long Beach police say they are investigating a shooting in the city’s Washington neighborhood that left a man wounded Tuesday night.

The man was sitting in his car in the 1700 block of Chestnut Avenue just after 6:30 p.m. when he heard what sounded like gunfire coming from an unknown direction, police said.

He then realized he’d been shot in the lower body, they added.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel took him to a local hospital for treatment, according to police, who said his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

It’s unclear who shot the man, if the gunfire was directed at him, or if it was a stray bullet that struck him.
