Man dies nearly 2 weeks after being struck by hit-and-run driver, police say
Police say 48-year-old Anthony Tapia was crossing the street outside of a marked crosswalk near the area of St. Louis Avenue and Seventh Street on the night of Aug. 3, when someone in an SUV hit him and drove away.
A man who police say was struck by a driver while crossing the street earlier this month has died, authorities announced today.
Long Beach Police say Anthony Tapia, who they identified as a 48-year-old homeless man, was crossing the street outside of a marked crosswalk near the area of St. Louis Avenue and Seventh Street on the night of Aug. 3, when someone in a dark-colored SUV hit him.
The driver of the SUV immediately left and did not return to the crash site, police said.
Officers responded to the area shortly before 9:30 p.m. and began rendering aid to Tapia before Long Beach Fire personnel took him to a local hospital, according to police.
On Friday, detectives were notified that Tapia had died from his injuries, authorities said.
Detectives are still looking into the crash and trying to find the driver of the SUV, according to the LBPD.
Police ask anyone with more information to contact detectives at 562-570-7355.
