Man dies in crash on Ocean Boulevard in Downtown, police say
The man, 19, was a passenger in a car that slammed into a tree Monday night, according to authorities.

Police are investigating the death of a man who died in a car crash near Shoreline Drive and Ocean Boulevard Monday night.
The man, according to the Long Beach Police Department, was traveling with two others northbound on Ocean Boulevard in a 2005 Chevrolet sedan at a high rate of speed around 10:40 p.m. when the driver, identified as a 19-year-old Van Nuys resident, lost control of the car.
The car then left the roadway and hit a tree, according to police. The crash overturned the sedan, trapping all three occupants inside, police added.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel freed all three people from the vehicle, according to authorities. Two were then taken to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while the third died at the scene, police said.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash, according to the LBPD.
At this time, speed and impaired driving are being investigated as contributing factors in the crash, police said.
The victim was identified only as a 19-year-old Van Nuys resident as the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office works to notify his relatives.
Police ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact LBPD Collision Investigation Detail Detective Joseph Johnson at 562-570-7355.
