Man arrested after shoot-out on 710 Freeway, police say
The incident began when the unidentified suspect shot three men in Downtown Long Beach Tuesday morning, authorities allege.
A man was arrested early Tuesday morning in Los Angeles following a shoot-out with police on the 710 Freeway after he shot three people in Downtown Long Beach.
Long Beach police say the unidentified suspect allegedly shot three men in 200 block of Aquarium Way around 12:24 a.m. Two of the victims were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries while the third was treated at the scene, according to authorities.
Officers located a suspect and his vehicle near Burnett Street and Pacific Avenue, police said. After attempting a vehicle stop, officers pursued the suspect onto the 710 freeway, police added.
During the chase on the northbound 710, the suspect fired multiple shots toward officers and at least one officer fired back, according to the LBPD.
The pursuit ended in Los Angeles when the suspect's vehicle hit a pole, police said. Officers used a “less lethal” weapon on the suspect and arrested him, police added.
The suspect, who was not struck by gunfire, was then hospitalized for injuries sustained during the collision, police said.
No officers were injured during the incident, according to the LBPD. Officers did recover a firearm from the suspect's vehicle, police added.
The circumstances and motive for the Downtown Long Beach shooting are still under investigation, according to police.
Officers involved in the incident were equipped with body-worn cameras and department officials are reviewing the footage and will make it available to the public "as soon as possible," police said in a statement.
The LBPD will also conduct a "full and thorough multi-level review of the incident," police added.
