Man, 77, dies one week after being hit by a car near CSULB, police say
Long Beach resident Carleton Carlson was walking across Palo Verde Avenue outside of a marked crosswalk when he was hit by the driver of a 2015 Toyota Camry, according to police.

A 77-year-old man has died after being hit by a car near Cal State Long Beach in February, according to police.
Long Beach police say the man, identified as Carleton Carlson of Long Beach, was crossing Palo Verde Avenue outside of a marked crosswalk near Atherton Street around 7:20 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 21, when the driver of a 2015 Toyota Camry traveling northbound on Palo Verde Avenue hit him, police say.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported Carlson to a local hospital, where he was listed in critical but stable condition, according to the LBPD. On Sunday, however, police say they were notified that Carlson had died of his injuries at the hospital.
The driver remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said.
At this time, the LBPD does not consider speed or reckless driving as possible factors in the collision.
Anyone who witnessed this accident is asked to contact LBPD Collision Investigation Detail Detective Ashley Van Holland at 562-570-7355.
