Man arrested for manslaughter 6 months after fatal crash

A 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing a fatal crash that killed a woman six months ago, police said Wednesday.
Long Beach police say Desean Edwards, 40, allegedly killed 19-year-old Grace Edwards (no relation) in a Nov. 2 Los Altos crash.
On that day, Grace was walking in a parking lot around 3:55 p.m. when she was struck by a 2015 Lexus IS250 driven by Desean as it was pulling out of a parking stall, police said.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel gave Grace medical aid and then took her to a local hospital in critical condition, according to authorities. She died of her injuries on Nov. 5, police said.
Desean, who stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators, was arrested by LBPD detectives Tuesday in Long Beach, according to police.
He was booked for vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, authorities said.
His bail was set at $75,000, police added.
There were 56 traffic fatalities reported in Long Beach in 2025, the most since the early 1990s, according to LBPD data. There have been 22 traffic fatalities reported in the city so far this year, according to police statistics.
